General Meeting
Guest Speakers – Peter Doulman & John Cotter
Peter Doulman and John Cotter formed one of Australian motorsport’s most enduring and respected privateer partnerships, running in 12 consecutive Bathurst 1000s together between 1989 and 2000.
Best remembered for their determined campaigns, their careers together reflected the spirit of the era — resourceful, competitive, and driven by passion rather than factory budgets.
The big career highlight was the Bathurst pole position fight for the privateers back in 1997 where Peter went toe to toe in the pole shootout with Ryan McLeod to win that award.
After their most active years together, both men remain respected figures within Australian motorsport circles, their careers remembered as examples of determination and ingenuity in a fiercely competitive era. Today, Peter Doulman and John Cotter’s racing story stands as a reminder of a time when passion, teamwork, and mechanical excellence allowed privateers to challenge the giants — and sometimes beat them — on Australia’s biggest racing stages.
